Canadian County Sheriff's Office Website Redesign
A streamlined website transition that preserved what worked, simplified daily updates, and reduced administrative demands on Sheriff's Office staff.
Project Overview
The Canadian County Sheriff's Office in Oklahoma already had an established website and was satisfied with much of its existing content and design. Rather than starting from scratch, the department wanted a more efficient website platform that would be easier to maintain, improve the visitor experience, and reduce annual hosting and maintenance costs.
Sheriff Websites provided a streamlined transition to our law enforcement website platform, preserving the familiar design while improving navigation, integrating public records, and adding tools to support daily operations.
Because the department's existing content was already in place, we were able to launch the redesigned website on an accelerated timeline.
The Challenge: Improve Efficiency Without Starting Over
Canadian County's priorities were straightforward:
- Make website updates easier for department personnel.
- Improve navigation so residents could find information quickly.
- Provide online access to booking reports and registered sex offender information.
- Reduce recurring website hosting and maintenance expenses.
- Maintain a familiar appearance rather than introducing an unnecessary redesign.
- The department needed a website that served its community effectively without creating additional work for staff.
Our Solution: A Familiar Design with Better Functionality
Using our custom sheriff's office website platform, we retained the overall look and feel of Canadian County's previous website while reorganizing navigation and improving access to important information.
We also integrated the website with the department's existing systems to display arrest records and registered sex offender information.
This allowed the Sheriff's Office to provide public access to frequently requested records without requiring staff to manually publish every update.
Key website features include:
- Online Inmate Roster and Booking Reports: Public access to available inmate and arrest information through integration with the department's existing system.
- Sex Offender Search: An online resource for locating information about registered sex offenders in Canadian County.
- Most Wanted: A dedicated section for sharing information about individuals wanted by law enforcement.
- Career Portal: A centralized location for employment opportunities and recruitment information.
- Sheriff Sales: A section for accessing information about upcoming sheriff sales.
- Custom Graphic Design: Updated visual elements that complemented the department's existing identity.
- Simplified Website Management: Administrative tools that make it easier for authorized staff to maintain information and announcements.
An Additional Solution: A Dedicated Media Reporting Portal
One of the most valuable improvements came from conversations with the Undersheriff and Lead Investigator.
While discussing the department's daily operations, we identified an opportunity to reduce the time staff spent handling media requests for booking information.
Because the website was already integrated with the department's booking records, we developed a dedicated portal for media outlets and publications.
The portal allows authorized media users to access daily or weekly booking reports directly, without requiring Sheriff's Office personnel to prepare and distribute those reports individually.
The operational benefit: A recurring administrative task can be handled through an online self-service process, allowing staff to spend less time fulfilling routine media requests.
This feature wasn't simply part of a standard website redesign. It came from understanding how the department worked and identifying where technology could make those workflows easier.
The Result: Less Administrative Work, Easier Access to Information
Canadian County's redesigned website addressed the department's original goals while adding functionality that went beyond its initial requirements.
For department personnel:
- Easier management of website information.
- Automated access to booking and sex offender records through existing system integrations.
- Reduced manual involvement in routine media booking-report requests.
- Lower recurring hosting and maintenance costs compared with the department's previous arrangement.
For the community:
- Familiar website design with more intuitive navigation.
- Easier online access to inmate records, registered sex offender information, and sheriff sales.
- Centralized resources for employment opportunities, cold cases, and public safety information.
A Sheriff’s Office Website Built Around Real Operations
Canadian County demonstrates that improving a law enforcement website doesn't always require a complete visual overhaul.
By retaining the elements the department already liked, integrating existing records systems, and identifying a time-saving opportunity for staff, Sheriff Websites delivered a practical platform designed around the Sheriff's Office's needs.
It's an example of our approach to law enforcement website design: understand how the department operates, preserve what works, and build solutions that make information easier to manage and access.
